Bethany Christian Services – Refugee and Immigrant Services

Helps with refugee resettlement efforts in West Michigan, including pairing unaccompanied minors with foster families. Offers a transitional living facility for youths, as well as employment services, English language classes, transportation assistance, and mentoring opportunities. Additionally, provides counseling for victims of trauma, including coordinating medical and legal services.

St. Vincent Catholic Charities Refugee Services

St. Vincent Catholic Charities helps resettle refugees in the Lansing, Michigan and mid-Michigan areas. Services include locating affordable housing and providing food and basic necessities, as well as offering assistance with transportation, financial literacy, school enrollment, employment, and more. Refugee Services can also assist with applying for documents and U.S. State Department programs.

Refugee Focus

Refugee Focus is located in both Tucson & Phoenix, Arizona. Refugee Focus assists refugees with employment services such as resume writing, job applications, & interviews. Refugee Focus also offers refugees furnished housing, English Language training, & self sufficiency skills such as: cultural orientation, transit orientation, financial literacy, nutrition & cooking, health & wellness, safety, and technology orientation. Refugee Focus is a program of Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest.

English Language Services and Basic Skills Refugee Youth Project

The Refugee Youth Project (RYP) helps school-aged youth develop the knowledge and skills required for academic success and positive integration. Programs include after-school, summer school, individual mentoring, college access mentoring, and community arts. After-school programs focus on homework help, social skills, and building and improving English language skills. RYP partners with local colleges, universities, and high schools to recruit more than 250 volunteers each year. Volunteers play a crucial role in providing extra academic support and guidance to youth participants. Funding for RYP is provided through the generous support of the Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees (MORA), as well as supplemental grant and fundraising dollars. All RYP program services are FREE for participating students.

Baltimore City Community College Refugee Assistance Program

Classes help students improve their English language ability, develop skills necessary to find employment, and function in their everyday English language environment. Additionally, RAP classes provide a supportive classroom environment with instructors who are able to respond to individual students’ language needs. RAP serves adult refugees and asylees who have lived in the U.S. for five years or less. RAP has culturally and professionally diverse staff and instructors that are motivated and committed to the success of the program’s students.

All classes are FREE for students through a grant from the Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees. Classes are offered by Baltimore City Community College in Baltimore City and Catonsville, MD.

Commonwealth Catholic Charities – Refugee Resettlement Program

Aims to assist and empower refugees by teaching self-sufficiency. Services provided by Commonwealth Catholic Charities’ Refugee Resettlement program include employment placement and orientation, English instruction, educational planning, family mentorship, and case management. This organization is seeking volunteers and operates in the Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Roanoke areas.
